We are so excited to have everyone back for another awesome year of Camp WOW! Below you’ll see the information about the trainings and information about Camp WOW and the application to become a Camp WOW Counselor!
Camp WOW is an incredible four-day summer camp for those who are in grades 6, 7 and 8. Our parish has camp with St. Thomas, St. Mary’s in Huntley, and St. John Neumann Parishes. High School Counselors from these parishes give talks, lead small groups, and help the middle school students have a chance to truly encounter the Lord. At camp, along with lots of time to grow in relationship with God, there lots of activities like canoeing, laser tag, swimming, wacky olympics, food, and so much more!
Anyone who is currently in 9th-12th grades and a parishioner at St. John Neumann, St. Margaret Mary, St. Mary, or St. Thomas can apply to be one of our counselors. You don’t have to have previous Camp WOW experience to apply, but part of the application will be to let us know what your camp experience is as well as your involvement in your parish’s youth ministry, the parish as a large, and your community involvement, as well. What is really important is that anyone who wants to be a counselor is involved in their parish, takes their faith seriously, and wants to help younger teens come to know and love God in a deeper way!
The first step is to fill out the application that you’ll find below. After the application, you’ll sign up for an interview which will take place on one of two days. After you apply, your parents will also be emailed a form to fill out helping make sure they know the commitment. Once you interview, we will let you know shortly afterwards after we have made our decision. Anyone who is accepted will then come to the trainings (see below) and camp, and as long as you’re able to commit to that you’ll be a counselor!
The counselor interviews are (you’ll need to come for 20 minutes one of these two days):
This year, the counselor trainings are:
All together, there will be 20 hours of trainings. In order to be a counselor, you need to attend at least 16 of the 20 hours of training. Part of the application will be for you to let us know which trainings you can attend, and your parents will also be asked to fill out a form about your availability.
This year’s Camp WOW is from June 27-June 30th, once again at Dickson Valley. Monday, June 26th will be counselor night, and counselors need to attend the entirety of counselor night and all of camp in order to be a counselor.
Each student will ride to training on their own or can carpool with other counselors. For Camp, we will meet at one location (TBD) and ride on a bus to camp together.
Once we have accepted counselors, your Youth Minister will be in touch with registration and permission forms for your parish. These forms will take care of all of the trainings as well as camp itself. The cost to be a Camp WOW Counselor is $150, and there will also be a $20 fee for the Brunzwick Zone XL training (covering food and bowling).
